Dr. Deniz Gocken

Sacramento
Dr  Deniz Gocken received his medical degree from Hahnneman University in Philadelphia, after completing a combined BS/MD program with less than ten percent  of those starting eventually completing this rigorous program. After completing medical school, he went on to training in general surgery and anesthesia,  both in Philadelphia, eventually completing Plastic Surgery training at the well known Loma Linda University in southern California, serving as chief resident in 1995.  Prior to his medical career, he was involved in fire/rescue/emergency medical services in western Pennsylvania.

Dr Gocken was initially Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery in 1998, and has held memberships in the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the San Diego Plastic Surgery Society, as well as being elected a fellow of the prestigious American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Gocken has been practicing plastic and reconstructive surgery in California continuously for more than two decades, completing more than 20,000 procedures. Over the last ten years, he has used his training in aesthetic surgery and anesthesia to refine the practice of minimally invasive surgical techniques minimizing  downtime and avoiding general anesthesia. He has completed more than 5000 facial and body surgical procedures without general anesthesia.

Besides presenting at several national academic meetings in plastic surgery, Dr. Gocken has served as a training mentor for a national plastic surgery practice, has been featured as an expert on plastic surgery for news programs, in publications, and was featured on a national Discovery Channel program on plastic surgery.

Outside of his professional life Dr Gocken enjoys spending time with his daughters, working on cars and motorcycles, as well as hiking and expeditionary mountain climbing. You can almost always find his dog Spartan by his side while he isn’t working.

Many plastic surgeons regard themselves as artists. Dr Gocken understands his role to be a bit different than the artist; seeing himself more as an “editor”- patients bring their various works to him for refinement, rather than creating something of his own imagination. He sees the possibility in each patient to reach his or her best self, and values his role to help them achieve that, rather than express his wants in the surgical outcomes. This requires not just keen surgical skills, but critical listening, empathy, and above all putting the patient first. For each patient, the surgical experience is unique. The team, philosophy, and advanced techniques at elite are a perfect match for Dr Gocken as patient focused care leads to the highest quality outcomes, as well as the happiest patients.
